Chestnut Nature Park is one of the green parks which fringe the Central Catchment Area. It has several hiking trails. These include a Southern Loop and a North Trail.
While the North hiking trail inside Chestnut Nature Park does not form an entire loop, it is still possible to do a loop by making use of Zhenghua Nature Park. Here’s how we did the Chestnut Nature Park north loop and Zhenghua Nature Park, starting from the flats at Petir Road.
Starting off from Petir Road and Zhenghua Nature Park
Since there is limited parking at Chestnut Nature Park, we parked at the HDB flats at Petir Road to start our walk. Our walk started from Zhenghua Nature Park, across to the northern end of Chestnut Nature Park, down south to the Chestnut Avenue and back to Zhenghua Nature Park.
The closest blocks to reach the greenery at Zhenghua Nature Park is at Block 210 Petir Road. From there, you will be able to easily access Zhenghua Nature Park.
Zhenghua Nature Park is a linear park which runs north to south. Head north, past the water pipelines and under Bukit Panjang Road.
Following along the pathway, you will soon come to a pathway that leads under the Bukit Timah Expressway and into the northern end of Chestnut Nature Park.
Hiking Chestnut Nature Park’s North Trail
Inside Chestnut Nature Park, a prominent landmark that you will come across is the Chestnut Observation Tower.
You can climb up the tower to get views of the Central Catchment Area.
After that, it is time to head south along the Chestnut Nature Park’s northern trail. The off-road trail is only about 1.6 km long.
One thing good about heading southwards along the North Trail is that it is downward sloping.
To Chestnut Avenue and Completing the Loop
Passing by the Piping Hut, we eventually arrived back on paved road and Chestnut Avenue.
It was a short walk down and up the hill at Chestnut Avenue before we were able to rejoin the path at Zhenghua Nature Park. From there, it was pleasant walk back to the HDB flats at Petir Road.
The entire route around Zhenghua Nature Park and Chestnut Nature Park should not take more than 1.5 hours. It is a nice walk to take, especially in the mornings or late afternoons when it is cooler.
